3Motor Trend jumpstarter  Jul 11, 2009
The motor trend jumper has lights that come in handy when trying to jump start in the dark. Works great for boat batteries but when I tried to jump a car didnt seem like it carried enough juice. Have to make sure you have a solid conection because the wires are only on one side of the clamps. The built in air compresor isnt that strong or fast when it comes to airing a car tire but works great on bicycles. This is the first portable jump start I have bought so not sure what to expect in ohters but if I was to buy another one it wouldnt be this model.

4Some good features  Jan 03, 2009
I got this as backup for a motorcyle with electrical problems. I wasn't too optimistic based on a previous review, but a 150 watt inverter alone goes for almost as much as this unit, so I figured it wouldn't be too big of a risk. The first time I used it, I got the same result, and I had to charge it some more. In spite of the directions, 20 hours just won't do it the first time around. When I checked it out, I also realized that the clamps on the cables are only wired to one side of the jaws. You have to get a good connection on that side or it won't work, which is kind of tricky because of how the metal is mounted in the plastic clamps. I don't know if it would actually start a car, but once I got it completely charged, it started the bike half a dozen times without dropping into the low charge range. I plugged the inverter into it and ran a variable speed AC drill off it. The inverter has a cooling fan that is kind of noisy, but it works. The lights will blow you away and stay on for hours, as far as I can tell. Other than how long it took to charge, it's sort of amazing for something that small.

Update, Feb. 5, Been sitting for a month now and still holding charge.

1Consistently Defective  Nov 16, 2008
I am on my way to the auto supply store to exchange this item for the SECOND TIME. It will be my 3rd attempt. The first one did not hold the charge, after the 20hr mark and beyond. The 3 power lights would show when I tested it immediately after unplugging it, then only the red after about 30 seconds. So I never attempted to use it. The second one doesn't show ANY lights after charging, and one of the work lights is half blown. I attempted to use it anyway, as the lights showed during charging. Nothing. It is quite disturbing and inconvenient to have this happen. I purchased this item because I needed it, not so I could keep revisiting the auto supply store. Alas, 3rd times a charm, no? so I am hoping the exchange I make this time will work.
